John Connolly, born in Dublin, Ireland in 1968, has had a diverse background, having worked as a journalist, bartender, waiter, handyman at London's Harrods department store, and civil servant. He studied English at Trinity College Dublin and later pursued journalism at the Dublin City University. He spent five years as a freelance journalist for The Irish Times.
In 1999, Connolly made his debut as a thriller writer with "Every Dead Thing," which follows retired detective Charlie Parker's pursuit of the killer of his wife and daughter. The novel broke the record for the second-highest advance paid to a first-time author in British and American publishing history, making Connolly the first non-American to receive the Shamus Award and establishing him as the "Irish Master of Suspense." He won the Barry Award for Best Crime Novel in the UK for his novel "The White Road" in 2003.
Connolly is an incredibly versatile writer, spanning genres and crossing boundaries. He dazzles readers with his talent for writing thrillers, as well as for creating works that defy categorization, such as his masterful work of non-traditional fiction, "The Book of Lost Things." He is also the author of "Bad Men" and many other novels.
