Gilbert Strang was an undergraduate at MIT and a Rhodes Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford. He earned his Ph.D. from UCLA and has since taught at MIT. A Sloan Fellow and a Fairchild Scholar, he is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He holds the position of Professor of Mathematics at MIT, is an Honorary Fellow of Balliol College, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
