Chapter three shows the meeting of a young couple, while chapter four features a small-minded person plotting against Tang De. In chapter five, the villains plan succeeds as Tang De is captured and punished. Chapter six focuses on two sets of newlywed couples, one experiencing pain and the other full of happiness. During the trial in chapter seven, prosecutor Wilf "accidentally" burns a letter written to Tang Des father, who was a rebel. As a result, Tang De is taken away. Chapter eight portrays Tang De, a pitiful character who has no idea that he is being sent to a sea prison. Chapter nine describes the status of other characters after Tangs imprisonment. Chapter ten is a bit confusing so I will skip it for now and come back to it later. In chapter eleven, Louis XVIII rewards Wilf for betraying Tang De, and Wilf has a secret conversation with his father. Chapter twelve explores Wilf and his fathers political positions. Chapter thirteen presents Wilfs letter to Tang De, which has the power to save Tang De or condemn him to eternal damnation. Wilfs cunning and scheming character surpasses even Tang Ge La Er.
