Richard Linklater directed two contemporary classics starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. They are both screenplays compiled into one volume and depict the immediate and life-altering attraction between two strangers. The story follows Jesse, a young American student, who meets Celine, a young French woman, on a train from Budapest to Vienna. Despite knowing that they may never see each other again, they spend a few hours in Vienna where they share everything and promise to meet again. Nearly a decade later, now a successful novelist on a publicity tour, Jesse sees Celine in a bookstore in Paris. Once again, their time together is short, but they use it to reconnect the connection they felt on their first meeting. These two screenplays are a romantic, poignant, understated, and profound portrayal of love that is sure to become a classic in their own right.
