Trevor Noah was born in South Africa before the elimination of apartheid, a system of institutionalized racial segregation. He was born a “crime” because of his mixed race heritage; his father is white and his mother is Black. Despite being classified as colored and facing many forms of inequality, Noah was fortunate to grow up under the protection of his mother. She was brave, pious, rebellious, and optimistic, qualities which allowed him to grow up like a normal teenager despite the challenges of his social environment. In fact, Noah inherited his mother's nature and learned how to take control of his own life.
