Jo Kyodo was born in Hong Kong in 1969 and is part of the generation that was raised on martial arts TV dramas, anime, and video games. He graduated with a degree in translation and began writing novels full time in 1996. His works span various genres, including the action/fantasy series "Vampire Hunter Diary," the violent epic "Sha-Zen," and the thriller detective story "Mist Palace Building."
In 2008, he gained considerable attention for his long-form martial arts novel "Wudao Kuang's Poem," which was a long-time bestseller in Hong Kong and spawned a popular manga adaptation. Kyodo has also worked as a part-time lyricist, writing songs for popular musicians such as Candy Lo, Faye Wong, and Eason Chan. His lyrics for Lo's "Deep Blue" earned him the "Best Lyrics Award" from the Hong Kong Composers and Authors Society (CASH) in 2000.
Kyodo is also an enthusiast and researcher of martial arts, having studied Filipino weapon-based martial arts for several years. He hosted the Hong Kong Radio and Television's martial arts documentary series, "Kung Fu Legends" in 2010, 2012, and 2013, where he personally explored the origins and mysteries of martial arts.
