These diaries chronicled her struggles and adventures as an outsider finding her voice in the art world of 50s post-war London while confronting her traumas.

So desperate to free herself from the misery of being a waitress and wasting her life away, she was determined to make a difference.

Its almost a miracle that she was enrolled in the Slade School of Fine Art just by showing up with her paintings and claiming shes a genius. She made her first short film K with friends using stolen equipment from the schools film society, which was applauded and won her funding from the BFI for her next project. During this period, she met fellow artists who would later form the foundation of the Free Cinema Movement.

The writing is simple and truthful, it reminds me of Patti Smiths Just Kids, her experience in 60s New York.
