Hegel emphasizes that an ideal is the unity of subject and nature and is also the unity produced by human activity. He then describes different artistic forms and styles from a relatively macroscopic and historical perspective. He also explains the true objectivity of art works and how to use external and historical materials to present the true objectivity of artistic works. Hegel further refines this ideal and concept of artistic beauty through the individual ideal subject of the artist.

Therefore, Hegel is most concerned with how artists can present the concept of beauty and how to make it fully and truthfully manifest in external things during the creation of their artworks. Artworks are created by the mind, and this creative process requires subjectivity and creativity. Here, Hegel emphasizes that we cannot abstract the artists talent and genius into a philosophical study or a set of methods. Instead, the purpose of our discussion is to examine the relationship between the artists creative activity and the idea and how we can use the idea to understand artistic activity and the artist. Although the artist is not necessarily a philosopher, during the creative process, they must have some sort of intellectual process that is not easily quantifiable. To understand this point, Hegel divided the discussion of artistic activity into three parts: defining the concepts of genius and inspiration, discussing the objectivity of creation, and explaining creativity.
