Many people ask why dont they fight back or run away after reading or watching "Omg never let me go." The question is truly simple because this is the world of Ishiguro not the world of Hollywood. There is no spectacular scene in a dystopia, no big fight or yell though. Although there is nothing related to weakness or cowardice that prevents them from being against the unfair system, the fundamental question is what to fight about.
Additionally, is it the invincible thing that haunts you since you are born, the fate, the cruel and merciless fate? This is what we own and what owns us. Ishiguro took the extreme situation of human beings that are not actual human beings to discuss the basic predicament that will happen in every human beings situation.
Interestingly, the characters deeply realized and accepted the truth that they were not human beings, they were just creatures, poor creatures. They copied how humans behave, they seek verification for their spontaneous mortal feelings. They are helpless and cannot fight because the essential meaning for the beings of themselves was deprived of, only existing difference that they were cloned. So there is no question about why they dont fight or rebel.
Even with the courage to point the sword, who to kill? The question is not just for characters in the books but also for us. In the reality we thrive, can we fight for IT, no matter where we are, no matter who we are? Moreover, what makes humans human? Is it a quality we are born with, just simply because we are human in terms of biology? Or do we also need to find out if there is a soul inside us?
Can we always be so reassured about the fact that we are humans? Can we construct and grasp the meanings from the world, the others, and the self for ourselves? Sometimes Id think: yes, there is a meaning after all, at one point, you can assure that youve lived your life, no matter at what age, no matter how the world toss your body in the waves.
