Kafka was a well-known expressionist writer from Europe. He lived during a time when the Austro-Hungarian Empire was near collapse and was heavily influenced by philosophers such as Nietzsche and Bergson. Despite the political events occurring around him, he maintained a nonchalant attitude towards them. This is reflected in much of his work, which is characterized by surreal and absurd imagery presented in a symbolically intuitive manner. Through his writing, he portrays the isolation and desperation felt by individuals in a hostile social environment.
