AlbertCamusthinkstherearethreewaystoescapethisabsurdity.Thefirstoneisphysicalsuicide,whichiswhatSvidrigailovchooses.Hedoesn'tfindareasonforhisexistence.Heonceputshishopeinlove,butseeingthathecannevergetit,hepulledthetriggertokillhimself.Thesecondoneisphilosophicalsuicide,whichistohavefaithinthefuturelife.Raskolnikovcan'tbringhimselftobelieveit.Raskolnikovactuallytakesthethirdescapeintheend,whichis,tonotescapeatall.Hefirsttriestoescapebybreakingthisdepressingsocialordersothathecouldcarryouthisdesignforhislife.Butitisnotsoeasytoconcealacrime.WhenheisexiledtoSiberia,whenheloseshisfreedomandenduresthephysicalpainofhardlabour,heseesthemeaningofexistence.Itisnotthegranddesignhemakesforhimself,butsimplyasinglerayofsunshine,athickforest,oracoldspring.HestartstoenjoyexistenceandgiveshishearttoSonya.BTW,IfinditamazingthatinWarandPeace,Pierrealsolivesaconfusedlife,pursuingthemeaningoflifebyjoiningFreemasonryandlaterjoiningthearmy.Buthe,too,onlyfindsthemeaningoflifeinprisonwhenhefailstoassassinateNapoleon.He,too,findsthemeaningoflifeinlifeitself.
